Airbus Industries partnered with GCS for an enterprise-wide trans-national process harmonization. This initiative was designed to streamline core business processes across 17 European industrial and administrative sites, to clearly define process maturity and to consolidate the use of IT tools enterprise-wide.

In 2012, Airbus Industries partnered with GCS on a strategic campaign designed to streamline core business processes across all functions and at all industrial and office sites in France, Germany, Spain and the UK. Core business functions ranged from facilities management to manufacturing and engineering. This initiative was not only designed to drive a more collaborative environment within Airbus’ Facilities Management and Real Estate (FMRE) organization but to reduce the total number of IT tools utilized throughout Airbus’ business operations. The envisioned result was a 60% reduction in the number of FMRE applications in use; which at the time totaled 60.

Calling upon extensive aerospace experience and Integrated Workplace Management System (IWMS) expertise, GCS professional services staff developed a strategy for managing the program with the goal of creating a blueprint for enterprise-wide business process optimization.

To accomplish this, GCS launched a four stage strategy:

Stage One
A five week engagement focusing on program strategy planning. The result was a governance plan outlining program roll-out strategies for the functional areas within FMRE as well as two to three (2-3) year project timeline, high-level cost estimates and a strategic technology road map.

Stage Two
During this stage, business objectives, common business drivers and Airbus’ current state of processes for each functional areaalong with their pain points and needs were identified. GCS consultants gained an understanding of process maturity and identified key performance indicators (KPIs). Airbus leadership from each of the six functional areas participated. Cultural and regulatory challenges that would need to be overcome in order to forge consensus were identified as well.

Stage Three
GCS IWMS experts identified gaps between the application’s system requirements and each functional area’s processes; documenting instances where integration with the out-of-the-box TRIRIGA application would be relatively simple and where it would be more complex and require customization.

Stage Four
The culmination of the three previous stages; a full program deployment through business process re-engineering was conducted. Working again with high-level global FMRE Airbus leadership, GCS facilitated the scaled processes development to align processes at all sites, markets and countries.
