New York-Presbyterian recently received the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) 2016 Excellence in Health Care Facility Management Award for the design and implementation of an enterprise-wide visual space and asset management system. NewYork-Presbyterian’s award was announced on October 25th in conjunction with National Health Care Facility and Engineering Week hosted by the American Hospital Association.

According to ASHE, the award “… recognizes individuals or facility management departments that implement new or innovative programs or processes to optimize the physical environment and improve patient care. The team at New York-Presbyterian created a system to improve the reliability of its environment of care, improve the patient experience, and improve operational efficiencies.” Moreover, approximately $3 million USD in cost savings have been realized as well as a 30 percent decrease in physical environment deficiencies.

“Our top priority is providing a caring environment conducive to healing,” said Larry Borsinger, Director of Environment of Care Compliance at NewYork-Presbyterian. “Newmark was instrumental in helping us design and implement a visual asset management tool which not only improved patient safety but also significantly lowered costs and increased operational efficiency.”

The Visual Asset Management (VAM) tool is leveraged across the NewYork-Presbyterian enterprise and its use continues to expand as needs arise. Additional benefits of the VAM tool include an improved inspection process, reduced administrative costs, more competitive pricing on condition remediation, improved timeframe for repair and more efficient allocation of resources as the hospital now has the data required to drive decisions, manage risks and enhance each patient’s experience, outcome and safety.
