Geopolitics: Where to Go? Where to Grow? What Do You Need to Know?
Monday, October 17 | 2:15 - 3:15 PM
How do international companies develop strategies for locating and running operations in regions and countries with ever-changing political and economic risks? China's stock market has been extremely volatile, dragging global markets down in its wake, will other stock markets follow? A rise in terrorist activities has the world on high alert. Climate change has made presumed "safe" locations now vulnerable to natural disasters and supply chain risk has risen as a top priority for the c-suite. With so many variables in play, how do companies make decisions? Executives are demanding that plans be developed to address these issues and avoid disruptions to customer service. Join this thought-provoking session and gain practical insights from a panel of industry hand-picked to strengthen your ability to analyze and mitigate risk within your organization.

Real estate asset values are near or above all-time highs in many US markets. Is this a “Bubble”? Would the ability to plan for and predict market cycles impact your company’s real estate decisions?
Market cycles are a defining characteristic of commercial real estate. At the same time, business cycles continue to shorten and technology adoption is increasing the unpredictability of future needs in all businesses. By incorporating the ability to assess operational fitness and proactively planning for increasingly dynamic business needs with increased understanding of market cycles (and bubbles), we are able to transform corporate real estate’s value to the Business. This insight enables us to not only fundamentally improve alignment between real estate and business objectives, but more importantly to create business value. Learn how to leverage real estate cyclicality, increase business flexibility, plan for capital investment decisions, and create a transaction roadmap for your service provider.

How Ready Are You for FASB’s New Lease Accounting Standards?
Tuesday, October 18 | 2:15 - 3:15 PM
In early 2016 the U.S. Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) issued new lease accounting standards that require major changes to how to account for leases on corporate financial statements. These changes will impact virtually every company to some degree and have created a heightened concern for real estate portfolio managers, CRE leaders, and CFOs because of the financial reporting and business implications. This panel session will provide you with an overview of the new standards and practical advice on what your company can do now to prepare for the changes. Following this session, attendees will be better prepared to discuss and address how the new standards might affect real estate strategies and decision making.
